SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of converting input image data into output image data. Disclosed is a method of converting input image data (Vin) in a first dynamic range (LDR) into output image data (Vout) in a second dynamic range (HDR) which is greater than the first dynamic range (LDR). The output image data (Vout) are split into at least two signals, wherein the first signal (VRC) comprises region contrast data and the second signal (VD) comprises detail data. The dynamic range for the region contrast signal is stretched with a higher stretch factor than the dynamic range for the detail signal. The method comprises identification of bright parts of an image, and for bright part of the image, the dynamic range is stretched even more than for the region contrast signal.
EFFECT: high quality of image reproduction.
