FIELD: physics, optics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to multi-aspect display devices, such as autostereoscopic display devices. The device comprises a controller (1) for controlling the direction of a light beam (5), having a set (10) of layers. The set (10) comprises a first layer (100) of solid material, having a first optical axis (111), a second layer (200) of solid material having a second optical axis (211), and a switched birefringent liquid crystal material. The set also includes a first boundary (130) between the first layer (100) of solid material and the birefringent material (30) and a second boundary (230) between the second layer (200) of solid material and the birefringent material (30). In the "off" state, the birefringent material (30) on the first boundary (130) has an optical axis which is parallel to the first optical axis (111), and the birefringent material (30) on the second boundary (230) has an optical axis which is parallel to the second optical axis (211). In the "on" state, the birefringent material (30) on the first boundary (130) has an optical axis which is perpendicular to the first optical axis (111), and the birefringent material (30) on the second boundary (230) has an optical axis which is perpendicular to the second optical axis (211).
