FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: acetanilide is reacted with 1-adamantanol as an adamantylation agent with equimolar amounts of reactants in a medium of nitromethane at solvent boiling point in the presence of a Lewis acid. The Lewis acid used is 10 mol % aluminium triflate. The formed 4-(1-adamantyl)acetanilide is hydrolysed with hydrochloric acid and the obtained reaction mass is neutralised with sodium hydroxide to obtain the end product. The end product is obtained with output of more than 84% in all steps.
EFFECT: method increases the overall output of the end product and simplifies the process owing to use of commercially available starting compounds.
