FIELD: organic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to organic chemistry, specifically to production of 5-(1-adamantyl)salicylic acid, which is of interest as an antimicrobial agent and a starting compound for synthesis of biologically active compounds, heterocyclic compounds and metal complexes with various practically significant properties. Method of producing 5-(1-adamantyl)salicylic acid is characterized by that salicylic acid and adamantylating reagent react, which is 1-adamantyl acetate, taken in equimolar amount, wherein the reaction is carried out in presence of 10 mol.% of aluminium triflate while boiling reactants for 2 hours in medium of 1,2-dichloroethane.
EFFECT: providing an additional effective method of producing the target product.
