FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: technique involves a genetic analysis of the Vall58Met polymorphism of catechol-O-methyl-transferase gene; pre-stimulation suppression and a baseline latent period of acoustic startle are selectively assessed in Met/Met haplotype carriers. If the pre-stimulation suppression tends to decrease with increasing the baseline latent period of acoustic startle, schizophrenia is diagnosed.
EFFECT: higher diagnostic accuracy.
