FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: patient suffering from drug-resistant hypertension has his/her systolic blood pressure and β-adrenergic responsiveness of red blood cell membranes measured. If the measured systolic blood pressure is 170 mm Hg or more, whereas the β-adrenergic responsiveness of red blood cell membranes is 40 standard units or more, radio-frequency renal sympathetic denervation is considered indicated. The systolic blood pressure of less than 170 mm Hg and the β-adrenergic responsiveness of red blood cell membranes of less than 40 standard units enables considering renal sympathetic denervation unnecessary.

EFFECT: method enables selecting the patients suffering from drug-resistant hypertension, who are in need of renal sympathetic denervation for reducing blood pressure effectively.
