FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. Technically pure titanium is melted in the melting hearth furnace, cooled with producing a titanic slab and is subjected to hot rolling. The titanic slab contains the iron stabilising its β-phase. When cooling the titanic slab surface is cooled down to the point of β-transformation or below, again heated to the point of β-transformation or above, and then cooled gradually. After cooling the average iron concentration along the slab thickness to the depth up to 10 mm from its surface, corresponding to the surface of rolling, is less or is equal to 0.01 wt %.
EFFECT: resistance to the formation of surface defects is provided.
