FIELD: physics, computer engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to imaging elements which determine phase difference and record an image. An imaging element comprises a plurality of phase difference determining pixels, configured to generate signals for making a decision on adjusting focus by determining phase difference, and a plurality of image generating pixels. A first group of pixels formed by arranging part of the phase difference determining pixels in a specified direction and a second group of pixels formed by arranging part of the image generating pixels from the plurality of image generating pixels in said specified direction are arranged alternately in a direction perpendicular to said specified direction. The first group of pixels comprises a first line formed by arranging, in a specified direction, phase difference determining pixels to be divided by the pupil in a specified direction, and a second line formed by arranging, in said specified direction, phase difference determining pixels to be divided by the pupil in a perpendicular direction, wherein the first and second lines are arranged alternately across the second group of pixels.
EFFECT: reduced processing load relating to image generation.
