FIELD: ophthalmology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of forming silicone hydrogel, used as material for contact lenses. Method for forming silicone hydrogel material, comprising steps of: preparing a mixture of polymerisable components comprising at least one hydrophilic component and at least a silicone component, wherein at least one polymerisable component comprises at least one hydroxyl group, and further said mixture comprises a borate in an amount sufficient to reduce cure time as compared to an identical mixture free of borates; curing said mixture to produce a cured silicone hydrogel material. Also provided are versions of said method, methods for producing an optically transparent material and intermediate material for contact lenses, versions of contact lenses and material for medical devices based on resulting hydrogel material.

EFFECT: technical result is obtaining silicone hydrogel material with good viscosity and rate of hardening and enables to form contact lenses with improved mechanical properties.
