FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing carotenoids, including astaxanthin. Method involves culturing bacteria belonging to genus Paracoccus that produces astaxanthin and canthaxanthin, in a medium containing biotin in concentration 0.001-50 mg/l. Concentration of dissolved oxygen in cultivation product is maintained at a level of 1 ppm or more during cultivation, and ratio of concentration of produced canthaxanthin to concentration of produced astaxanthin in cultivation product after cultivation is 25 wt% or less.

EFFECT: invention ensures production of astaxanthin in high concentration with low level of production of canthaxanthin.
