FIELD: measurement technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to soil science and concerns a method for determining colour characteristics of soil. Method includes creating a set of colour scales, measuring colour values for all colour chips of the produced colour scales and forming a calibration table using the obtained values. Colour scales are fixed on a plastic plate with size of 10×15 cm, the plate is located near the soil sample and an image of a soil sample is obtained together with the selected scale. Image is imported into a computer program, the averaged value of RGB and LAB are determined for images of colour chips and the soil sample. Colour chip, LAB values of which is most close to soil sample LAB values, is found. RGB correction is determined for the closest in terms of colour chip scale using the calibration table, obtained correction is added to the measured sample RGB values and specified soil sample RGB values are converted into LAB values.

EFFECT: higher measurement accuracy and possibility of taking measurements in field conditions.
