SUBSTANCE: invention relates to detection of photons. Detection apparatus comprises pile-up determining unit for determining whether detection signal pulses being indicative of detected photons are caused by pile-up event or by non-pile-up event, wherein detection values generating unit generates detection values depending on detection signal pulses and depending on determination whether respective detection signal pulse is caused by pile-up event or by non-pile-up event. Wherein detection values generating unit can be adapted to reject detection signal pulses, caused by pile-up events while generating detection values.
EFFECT: technical result - improved quality of generated detection values.
