SUBSTANCE: invention relates to techniques for entropy decoding/coding of video data. Disclosed is a decoder for decoding a video from a data stream into which syntax elements are coded using binarisations of syntax elements. Decoder comprises an entropy decoder configured to derive a number of bins of binarisations from data stream using binary entropy decoding by selecting a context among different contexts and updating probability states associated with different contexts, dependent on previously decoded portions of data stream. Decoder also includes a desymboliser configured to debinarise binarisations of syntax elements to obtain integer values of syntax elements.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of decoding/coding of video data by optimising initialised conditions of probability for each context.
