FIELD: metal processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to field of cathode protection of metal surfaces from corrosion in ground or other current-conducting medium and can be used in a pipeline transportation system. Method involves passing direct current between a structure and group of anodes providing protection potential on structure due to gradual dissolution of anodes, wherein method comprises periodical electrochemical activation of group of anodes by feeding alternating current between anodes simultaneously with supply of direct current using a cathodic protection station. Alternating current source used is a secondary winding of a step-down transformer of cathodic protection station, and periodic supply of alternating current is carried out for 15 minutes per hour.
EFFECT: technical effect is reduction of spreading resistance of anodes for cathodic protection during operation due to activation of anodes with alternating current.
