FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of beryllium metal from beryllium concentrates. Beryllium-containing raw material is mixed with ammonium bifluoride taken with 5-20 % excess according to stoichiometrically required amount. Fluorination of concentrate is carried out at 130-240 °C. Formed cake is dissolved in water. Ammonium tetrafluoroberyllate solution is subjected to two-step settling purification from impurities with ammonia water (pH = 8.5). Purified beryllium-containing solution is evaporated to obtain crystalline (NH4)2BeF4. To obtain beryllium fluoride (NH4)2BeF4 is subjected to thermal decomposition in two steps. For production of beryllium metal in crucible of induction furnace BeF2 and powder of magnesium metal are layered so that magnesium layer is located above beryllium fluoride, and reduction is carried out. Formed mixture is melted and crude metal is refined.
EFFECT: preventing high-temperature, power consuming processes, multi-step procedure for purifying beryllium-containing solutions and steps of producing secondary highly toxic intermediate products.
