FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ion-beam vacuum technology for production of materials with special properties, in particular, to a method for surface treatment of carbon steel, and can be used for production of parts of machines and mechanisms, operating in severe environments. Method comprises ion-beam treatment of steel, containing: carbon 0.1 % to 0.3 %, manganese from 0.2 % to 0.6 %, silicon from 0.1 % to 0.3 %. Preliminary surface cleaning is carried out. Surface is irradiated with manganese ions in a vacuum with ion energy of 30-60 keV, radiation dose 1016-1017 ion/cm2 and ion current density of 10-50 mcA/cm2. Preliminary surface cleaning includes mechanical polishing and cleaning in organic solvents. Surface is irradiated in ion-beam installation in a vacuum at pressure not higher than 10-3 Pa.
EFFECT: higher hardness and wear resistance of articles made from carbon steel.
