FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method includes specifying a reference value of the welding parameter, such as welding current, welding speed and welding voltage, and the desired value of the controlled parameter is determined from the welding condition (R-Ro) = (T-Tt)/M, where M is a constant defined as the ratio of the maximum permissible temperature change at the product surface at the given measurement point to the maximum permissible change in the controled welding parameter at permissable tolerances of penetration depth, Ro is the reference value of the controlled welding parameter, R is the desired value of the controlled welding parameter, Tt is the measured current temperature value of the set point of the product surface, T is the calculated temperature value of the set point of the product surface. The set point for temperature measurement is selected on the product surface outside the weld pool on the basis of certain conditions.
EFFECT: increased speed and accuracy of the penetration depth control.
