SUBSTANCE: on milking station, automatic milking of each dairy animal in a group of dairy animals is performed. A subgroup of dairy animals that need to be separated from the group is determined. The collection time is determined, in which the dairy animals in a subgroup of dairy animals are planned to be separated from the group. The separation period, which is determined by the time length from the start time preceding the planned collection time, to the planned collection time, is selected individually for each individual dairy animal, depending on the property of said individual dairy animal. The dairy animal is separated from the group of dairy animals when it enters the milking station itself during the individual separation period selected for said dairy animal.

EFFECT: process of separating a subgroup of dairy animals from a group of dairy animals is simplified.
