FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the protection sphere of high-voltage overhead power transmission lines (OHPL) from atmospheric overvoltages. The method consists in installation of a rope lightning rod on the supports above the phase conductors. The rope lightning rod is grounded or isolated from the support, the overvoltage amplitude is reduced, limiting the entire spectrum of lightning overvoltage frequencies by producing of the lightning rod of a carbon-containing material with a resistance of not less than 10 Ohm/km and not more than 10 MOhm/km, which is selected according to the type of supports and voltage type of high-voltage overhead power transmission line. The device comprises a rope lightning rod connected to the support directly or through an insulator which is made of carbonaceous fiber woven together or of carbonaceous threads made by torsion and woven together.
EFFECT: increasing of reliability of power supply and increasing of service life of the lightning protection device.
