FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: in a rotary casting machine, a workpiece of trapezoidal cross-section is produced by continuous casting, which bottom base is formed with a protrusion in the form of oblique triangle. At the mobile crystalliser outlet, the lower base middle of the workpiece cross section is cooled at a collision rate of the cooling water and the workpiece surface of 20,-2.5 times higher than the rest portion of the workpiece cross section, which results in increase of the workpiece cooling intensity in given area. The continuously cast workpiece undergoes subsequent rolling in continuous hot rolling mill.
EFFECT: elimination of defects along transverse cracks in the middle of the lower base of the workpiece trapezoidal cross-section, elimination of workpiece breaks along said cracks during casting and subsequent rolling of the workpiece.
