FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: silicone hydrogels containing 8-17 wt % of silicones prepared from reaction mixtures containing at least one monofunctional polydialkylsiloxane monomer having from 7 to 120 dialkylsiloxane repeating units, 40-60 wt %, at least one slowly reacting hydrophilic monomer selected from N-vinylamide, vinylpyrrolidone and N-vinylpiperidone and at least one hydroxyl-containing hydrophilic monomer selected from hydroxyalkyl (meth) acrylate and (meth) acrylamide where the molar ratio of hydroxyl-containing components to slowly reacting hydrophilic monomer is 0.15-0.4 and the reaction mixture contains no diluents and where the slowly reacting hydrophilic monomer has a kinetic half-transformation period of at least twice as long as the kinetic half-transformation period of the slowest monofunctional silicone components.
EFFECT: proposed silicone hydrogels are made from inexpensive commercially available monomers, have excellent wettability, low elastic modulus, good transparency and oxygen permeability.
