FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: method for controlling the actuating mechanism of the variable cam timing (VCT) consists in the fact that during the engine (200) stop, a camshaft (214), (216) is adjusted by the VCT actuating mechanism (224), (226) to the target initial position. The first maintaining level is applied to the VCT actuating mechanism (224), (226) to maintain the target initial position. During the start of the engine (200), before the position feedback of the camshaft (214), (216) becomes available, the second maintaining level is applied to the VCT actuating mechanism (224), (226) to maintain the target initial position. The versions of the method for controlling the actuating mechanism of variable cam timing and the engine are disclosed.
EFFECT: maintaining the camshaft in the required position for the first ignition event in the engine.
