FIELD: internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the internal combustion engines. Method of operating an engine includes the following steps. Spool valve is moved to move the gas distributor phase regulator with the cam drive to the locking position. Phase regulator is held in locking position without insertion of locking pin for some time. After this time slide valve is moved further for insertion of locking pin. Phase regulator is held in the locking position without inserting the locking pin for the said time in response to the oil temperature in the engine below the threshold value. Threshold value depends on engine rpm. Operating method and engine system are described.
EFFECT: technical result consists in reduction of time of actuation of cam phase regulator.
