FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: based on the experimental data obtained from seismic stations spaced on the surface, a map of earthquake epicentres in the study area is constructed. The kinematic and dynamic characteristics of tremors are determined in terms of amplitudes and seismic oscillation periods. The displacement in the source of the earthquake and the length of the focus are calculated according to the seismic moment of the earthquake, the area of discontinuity and the velocity of the bulk transverse waves. The elastic deformation in the source of the earthquake is determined as the ratio of the displacement in the source to the length of the source. Statistical processing of the obtained results is performed and the correlation formulas between the logarithm of elastic deformations and the energy class of earthquakes of the investigated territory are obtained.
