FIELD: seismology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to seismology and can be used for determination of earthquake chains in epicentral field of fault seismicity. Earthquake epicenters map of the analyzed territory is plotted as per experimental materials of seismic stations spaced on the earth's surface. Relatively homogeneous section of the earthquake zone of the fracture zone is selected. Map of epicenters of earthquake zones of the selected area in the form of a rectangle is plotted. Distribution of epicenters of earthquakes along the site in the form of random distribution with constant probability density is generated. Distribution of epicenters of earthquakes across the platform in form of a normal is specified. Based on obtained distribution of epicenters there created is a vector diagram of azimuths of epicenters of successive in time earthquakes. Obtained vector diagram in a given angular sector is used to determine the number of earthquake epicenters directed in one direction in time. If the number of unidirectional consecutive epicenters of earthquakes is not less than three, the given sequence is defined as a chain of earthquakes in the fracture zone.
EFFECT: monitoring of the lithosphere condition of the fracture zone.
