SUBSTANCE: method of determining the relative error in the measurement of the standard, made in the form of a metal ball of radius r and located at a distance R above the ground, which consists in irradiating the standard with the primary field of the receiving and transmitting antenna, simultaneously measuring the power of the field of the back reflection of the standard and the field of its secondary radiation in the direction normal to the surface of the earth, field, reflected from the surface of the earth, is retransmitted using the reference in the direction of the transmit-receive antenna, wherein the maximum relative error in the measurement of the reference (δσe)max is determined using the formula: (δσe)max=±2/N⋅tg(2n-1/4)+1/N2⋅tg2(2n-1/4), where N is the number of wavelengths λ of the field in the length of the distance R under the condition N >> R /λ, n is the number of wavelengths λ of field in the length of the distance R under the condition n>1.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention is a reduction in the laboriousness of determining the maximum relative error in the measurement of the standard.
