FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for preparing 2-ethyl-3,5-dimethylpyridine which consists in the reaction of propionaldehyde and ammonia in the presence of amorphous mesoporous silica-alumina ASM (Si / Al = 40), the reaction is carried out in autoclave at 30–180 °C, with propane:ammonia molar ratio of 1–2:1–5, catalyst concentration of 2–20 %, within 5 hours.
EFFECT: technical result consists in preparing 2-ethyl-3,5-dimethylpyridine with a higher yield, using cheaper and more accessible catalyst, with fewer steps, without a solvent.
