FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a genetically modified pig that is resistant to infection with the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). This genetically modified pig contains an inactivating mutation in both alleles of the CD163 gene. Such inactivating mutation results in production of a CD163 protein that cannot bind to the PRRSV, i.e., the mutation modifies the activity of CD163. The said genetically modified pig may further contain an inactivating mutation in both alleles of the SIGLEC1 gene. Methods for production of such genetically modified pigs are also provided.
EFFECT: invention allows to obtain genetically modified pigs that are resistant to infection with the swine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus.
