FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: road vehicle with an automatic control system operating in the modes of setup, active driving, safe stopping, and emergency response is proposed. In the active driving mode, the vehicle automatically moves along the route specified in the setup mode. The driver detection system detects the presence of the driver in the driver's seat and monitors his/her physiological condition. The active driving mode does not start until the driver is not detected in the driver's seat and his/her physiological condition does not coincide with the pre-determined normal condition. In the active driving mode, the time is counted, during which the presence of the driver is not detected. If the first threshold time value is exceeded, the driver is sent a message that the active driving mode can be terminated. If the second threshold time value is exceeded, the active driving mode is terminated and the safe stop mode is started. In the active driving mode, the information received, concerning the driver's physiological condition, is compared to the predetermined critical condition, and in case these values coincide, the active driving mode is terminated, and then the emergency reaction mode is started. A method for autonomous driving of a road vehicle is also proposed.
