FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machining of materials and can be used in machining high-strength steels and hard-to-machine materials by mills with polyhedral two-side cutting plates. Plate comprises first and second chip removal surfaces with through fastening hole and lateral surface arranged there between. Cutting edges are formed at crossing of the first and second surfaces with side surface with 180° rotary symmetry. They consist of serially interleaved and separated vertices of main and minor cutting edges, which protrude beyond adjacent front surfaces, directed at positive front angles to support surfaces in form of separate fragments. Centers of gravity of support surfaces of each fragment on top view of the first surface do not lie on bisectors of corresponding angles formed at tops of cutting edges, and are located on circle, equidistant to circumference, which is described around cutting plate. Milling cutter comprises housing with working part accommodating sockets with said cutting plates.

EFFECT: higher efficiency and durability of cutting plates and cutters.
