SUBSTANCE: method for protecting optical communication cables with metal elements from lightning discharges is proposed, construction lengths of which are connected by means of the couplings, using lightning proof rope laid over it at half depth of optical cable laying, the axis of which is the same as in the vertical plane with the axis of the optical cable, linear earthing is laid, whose length to each side of lightning proof rope is equal to the depth of cable laying, to improve protection of optic cable from lightning discharges on lightning proof rope at the junction of construction lengths of optical cable on the half of the length of each coupling perpendicular to the road in a horizontal plane, and at the intersection of lightning proof rope with each linear earthing physical contact is carried out.

EFFECT: invention protects the optical cable in the area of increased thunderstorm activity.
