FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the production of transition metals. Said method comprises steps of mixing an oxide of the transition metal in a receptacle with a reducing agent comprising a Group II metal or a hydride thereof in the presence of water and/or an organic solvent, heat-treating the mixture of the transition metal oxide and the reducing agent for 2 to 8 hours at pressure of 0 to 10-3 mbar (0-0.1 Pa), leaching the resulting material with water and washing the leached material with an aqueous acid solution.
EFFECT: high-purity solid transition metal is obtained.
