SUBSTANCE: method for determining fuel quality is proposed using a propulsion system 200 comprising engine 208 configured for fuel consumption having at least two flow meters 214, 216. Method includes the step of controlling motor 208 located between flowmeter 214 on the supply side of the at least two flowmeters and return flowmeter 216 from the at least two flowmeters. First fuel density in flowmeter 214 on the supply side and the second fuel density in return side flowmeter 216 are measured. Fuel density measurements 317 between power side flowmeter 214 and return side flowmeter 216 are compared, and the value Δρ 319 of the measured differential density based on the difference between the second fuel density and the first fuel density. Value Δρ 319 is compared with the range of theoretical values Δρt differential fuel density and indicates potential fuel contamination if Δρ is out of range of values Δρt by a predetermined threshold value.
EFFECT: providing a method and device for determining the qualitative parameters of fuel, detecting potential fuel contamination, in particular water.
