FIELD: biochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of biochemistry, in particular to a method for producing tetraploid birch plants and involves treating a plant material with an antimitotic agent followed by plant regeneration. Method is characterized in that oryzalin is used as an antimitotic agent, axillary buds in vitro are used as a plant material; the initial culture of plant material in vitro undergoes rejuvenation, agarized nutrient medium QL is used as an environment for regeneration, and also a two-week period of dark phase is used during the regeneration.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to effectively create new forms of birch by artificially changing ploidy.
