FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mechanical engineering, namely to engine building. Engine block (200) comprises central cylinders (C2, C3), each of them has only the first and the second lifting profiles. Both profiles are non-zero lifting profiles. Each outer cylinder (C1, C4) has the first, the second and the third lifting profile. Two of these profiles are non-zero lift profiles, and one profile is a zero lift profile. Supports (291, 292, 293, 294, 295) of the camshaft (224) are on the sides of the lifting profiles of each cylinder (C1, C2, C3, C4). Distance (296, 299) between those supports (291, 292, 294, 295) of the camshaft (224) that are above the outermost (C1, C4) cylinders, exceeds the distance (297, 298) between those camshaft supports (292, 293, 294) that are above the central (C2, C3) cylinders. Variant of the engine block, an engine and a method of controlling a camshaft having an upper arrangement are also disclosed.
EFFECT: technical result consists in providing a sufficient space for placing the differing cam profiles over the extreme and central cylinders without disturbing the distance between the central cylinders.
