FIELD: storage; chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of processing fruit, berries, vegetables and greens before storing includes the interaction of a powdered preparation containing 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP), with aqueous alkali in the presence of a hydrophobising additive in a concentration of 0.05 to 5.0 wt% in one or more 1-MCP generators at a temperature of 30–85 °C, accompanied by passing air through an aqueous solution of alkali therein, with release into the atmosphere of the storage of gaseous 1-MCP for 1.5–4.0 hours, followed by treatment of the harvest with gaseous 1-MCP at a temperature of 12 to 16 °C. Further storage of the treated harvest is carried out in a normal or controlled gas medium at a lower temperature.
EFFECT: invention provides improves the efficiency of treating crop harvest, thereby prolonging shelf life and improving quality of said harvest.
