SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of wear-resistant coatings and can be used to expand the range of machine parts and tools. Method for producing a wear-resistant gradient coating of the Ti-Al system on a steel part in a vacuum includes depositing an intermetallic compound coating of the Ti-Al system from a vacuum arc discharge plasma for 180 minutes at a pressure of 1.5*10-1 Pa in an inert gas in the form of argon and currents of arc evaporators in the range of 60–120 A and subsequent nitriding in an arc discharge by means of a plasma source with an incandescent cathode for 60 min at a pressure of 2*10-1 Pa in a reaction gas in the form of nitrogen, the current of a incandescent cathode 100 A, and the current of an arc discharge of the plasma source 50 A and the temperature of the part 550 °C.

EFFECT: provides the wear-resistant gradient coating, increasing the mechanical properties and adhesion strength of the coating.
