FIELD: chemical or physical processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of application of ion-plasma coating on tool, such as grooving cutters, grooving drills. Processed tool is installed in a vacuum chamber, in which air is pumped to operating pressure. Then, ion cleaning, heating of processed tool and subsequent application of multilayer wear-resistant coating are performed. Activation and ion cleaning of the surface is carried out by a high-current plasma source with a filamentary cathode and electric arc evaporators in the medium of inert gas of argon with surface heating to 300–450 °C. Lower layer of titanium is applied on the tool; a Ti-Al intermetallide-based coating is applied from two electric arc evaporators with titanium and aluminum cathodes when the process is assisted by a high-current plasma source with a filament cathode in a nitrogen medium. Coating is applied in one process cycle.
EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of wear resistance of grooving tool.
