FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a converter technique and is intended for use on AC electric locomotives as a traction transducer. Traction converter of an electric locomotive is connected to a traction transformer, contains a controllable bridge connected to one section of the secondary winding of the traction transformer, diode arms connected to the remaining terminals of the secondary windings of the traction transformer through a set of contactors, forming n control zones. In the traction mode, the collector motor is a load, in the regenerative braking mode it is a generator having an independent supply of the excitation winding from the rectifying excitation unit.

EFFECT: increasing the power factor and providing a smooth voltage regulation on the collector motors in the traction and regenerative braking modes.
