SUBSTANCE: invention relates to pipeline transport and can be used in the repair of operated pipelines. On the defective site, the pipeline is opened and a defective place is prepared for the diagnosis. Specify the type, linear dimensions and depth of the pipe wall defect by methods of nondestructive testing. Calculate the fracture pressure of the pipe with a defect in the established dimensions. In the section of the defect, the curvature of the outer surface of the pipe is measured. Measure the curvature of the available half couplings to repair the defect. Choose from the available half couplings such specimens that satisfy the condition of the minimum total circumferential gap between the mating surfaces of the half couplings and the pipe, which is achieved at a certain position of the half couplings on the pipe, and also for a certain conditional direction of installation of the coupling halves. Calculate the closing pressure of the gap at the location of the defect. Compare the closing pressure of the gap with the pressure of failure of the pipe with a defect. Repair of the selected couplings is performed if the pipe failure pressure is exceeded with a defect in the closing pressure of the gap between the coupling and the pipe at the defect site.

EFFECT: reduced annular stresses in the defective wall of the pipeline.
