SUBSTANCE: use for measuring the thickness of the coating during the process of plasma-electrolytic oxidation of valve metals. Essence of the invention is that the method for determining the thickness of the coating includes measuring the voltage during the coating process, where the average and amplitude values of the processing voltage are measured, then their ratio is found, and the coating thickness h is determined by the formula where k1 and k2 – empirical coefficients, depending on the nature of the material being processed and the composition of the electrolyte, determined by calibration curves; Uavg and Umax are average and amplitude values of the processing voltage, respectively.

EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of determining the thickness of the oxide coating for the timely termination of the process of plasma electrolytic oxidation.
