FIELD: motors and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in control systems of internal combustion engines. Methods and systems are provided for addressing pre-ignition by mechanically varying a piston displacement within a combustion chamber. In response to pre-ignition and engine speed, when pre-ignition occurs, a static compression ratio may be reduced until a threshold lower compression ratio is reached. Pre-ignition is further addressed with enrichment of the fuel-air mixture. Thereby the amount of pre-ignition mitigating enrichment required overall is reduced.
EFFECT: reducing fuel consumption and engine toxicity, as well as improving engine performance.
