FIELD: construction.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to window systems, more particularly to privacy window systems. Privacy window system (1) comprising window panel (100), lighting unit (200), and control unit (300). Window panel (100) comprises first surface (110), second surface (120) and edge (130). Window panel (100) is transmissive for visible light. At least one of surfaces (110,120) of window panel (100) comprises surface structures (105), configured to generate visible privacy light (101) under irradiation with lighting unit radiation (201) of lighting unit (200). Lighting unit (200) is configured to irradiate one of surfaces (110, 120) of window panel (100) with radiation (201) thereby inducing privacy light (101) and reducing visibility through window panel (100) in at least one direction. Control unit (300) is configured to control lighting unit radiation (201) of lighting unit (200) as function of an input signal.

EFFECT: improved light transmission performance.
