FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to the smelting of steel in a converter with a combined blowing. In the method, purging with argon or carbon dioxide is carried out in a pulsed mode with a frequency of 0.01–1.0 Hz, at the beginning of smelting, the steel is flushed from below with argon until it is consumed in the amount of 0.3–5.0 m3/t of steel, then alternate blowing of steel from below with argon and carbon dioxide is carried out. Intensity of the melt blowing with argon or carbon dioxide from the bottom through bottom tuyeres is set based on the liquid iron consumption for smelting: when the iron consumption is less than 800 kg/t of steel, the intensity of argon and carbon dioxide blowing is set at 12.0–50.0 and 5.0–30 m3/min, respectively, when cast iron consumption is more than or equal to 800 kg/t of steel, the intensity of purging with argon and carbon dioxide is set at 25.0–60.0 m3/min, when cast iron consumption is more than 890 kg/t of steel, the intensity of blowing with argon and carbon dioxide is set at 30.0–80.0 m3/min.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to stably receive at the outlet from the converter the nitrogen content in the steel less than 0,003 %.
