FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, more specifically, steel making in converters; may be used in conversion of low-manganese iron. SUBSTANCE: method includes charging of metal scrap, pouring of hot metal, blowing of metal with oxygen. Blowing of metal with oxygen is started with lance position with respect to quiet bath level of 48-52 calibers and executed during the first 3-6% of total blowing time. Oxygen blast pressure onto metal is 5.0-7.5 GPa. The oxygen blast pressure is increased every 1-3% of the total blowing time by the formula specified in the invention description. After consumption of oxygen in the amount of 13-16 cu.m/t of steel, the lance is set to the working position. EFFECT: increased yield of product metal and lining stability, higher converter output and reduced consumption of alloying and reducing agents and hot metal. 1 cl, 1 tbl
