CATHETER WITH COOLING ON NONABLATING ELEMENT Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC A61B18/14 A61B18/12 A61M25/00 A61B17/00 A61B18/00

Abstract RU 2674887 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical equipment, specifically to catheters having an active distal portion, including an irrigated tip electrode, particularly useful in the case of ablation of cardiac tissue. Catheter comprises an elongated catheter body and a tip electrode located distally relative to the catheter body. Tip electrode comprises a shell having a proximal neck portion and a distal chamber; a support member having proximal and distal portions; and a fluid path provided between the neck portion of the shell and the distal portion of the support member. Proximal portion of the support member is inserted into the neck portion of the shell. Distal portion of the support member extends into the chamber of the shell. Proximal portion of the support member has a through hole for the fluid that passes through the inside of the proximal portion of the support member. Fluid channel is located on the outer surface of the distal portion of the support member and is in fluid communication with a through hole in the inside of the proximal portion of the support member. Fluid channel and through hole define a fluid passage from the inside of the proximal portion of the support member to the fluid passage on the outer surface of the distal portion of the support member and to the distal chamber. In accordance with the second embodiment of the catheter, the distal portion of the support member has an outer surface facing the inner surface of the neck portion of the shell, and the inner surface of the neck portion is adapted to allow the passage of fluid through the fluid passage.

EFFECT: inventions are aimed at minimising, if not completely stopping the formation of charred or coagulated tissues on the elements of the catheter structure adjacent to the tip electrode, by means of convective or direct cooling of these elements.
