SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering. Method for decoding video data from a bitstream in which coded residual coefficient data for a transformation unit, represented as a square block 8x8 in size, is received from the bitstream, wherein the received coded data includes at least one flag of a group of significant coefficients for indicating whether at least one of the residual coefficients in a corresponding sub-block of the square block is significant; scanning order of at least one flag of the group of significant coefficients and the scanning order of the residual coefficients for the transformation unit are determined according to the internal prediction mode; each flag of the group of significant coefficients corresponding to one of the subblocks of the square block is determined according to the determined scanning order of at least one flag of the group of significant coefficients; and the residual coefficients of the transformation unit are decoded according to the determined flag of the group of significant coefficients and the determined scanning order of the residual coefficients for generating the video data.

EFFECT: technical result is to reduce unwanted memory usage.
