FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for producing a vitreous material. Technical result is to increase the efficiency of production of vitreous material. Process for producing a vitreous material comprises steps of: introducing a solid raw mixture containing 35–100 wt. % of synthetic mineral fibres into a submerged combustion melter; melting the solid raw material mixture in the submerged combustion melter to form a liquid melt; removing at least a portion of the liquid melt from the submerged combustion melter and forming the removed liquid melt into a solid vitreous material. Synthetic mineral fibres contain from 2 wt. % to 18 wt. % organic binder and are present in the form of flakes.
EFFECT: submerged combustion effectively burns organic materials deposited on the fibres and transfers the remaining mineral fibres to the smelting bath, where they are melted.
