SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a system and method for transmitting a spark to a spark ignition engine. Proposed system and method for assessing the presence or absence of degradation of the ignition coil of the ignition system, which includes two ignition coils for each spark plug. Degradation of the ignition coil can be determined without tracking the ignition coils through special hardware circuits.
EFFECT: in one example, the degradation of one or more ignition coils can be determined when there is or is no misfire in the cylinder.
