SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in control systems of internal combustion engines. Methods and systems are proposed for a reliable assessment of an intake air charge in accordance with an oxygen sensor reading in the intake air located at an inlet, in the presence of a stream of hydrocarbons from exhaust gas recirculation, scavenging of fuel vapor or crankcase ventilation system to the engine. Uncorrected air charge assessment result is used to control the fuel supply to the engine, and the hydrocarbon-corrected air charge assessment result is used to control the engine torque, for example, by adjusting the throttle valve opening.

EFFECT: due to the application of the proposed regulation, an improvement in engine performance is achieved.
